About this Calculator â–¼

TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) is a mechanism where the person making certain payments deducts a portion as tax and deposits it to the government on behalf of the receiver. The receiver gets credit for the TDS when filing their ITR.

Formula Used
TDS Amount = Payment Amount × TDS Rate / 100 Net Payment = Gross Amount − TDS
TDS Rate = Prescribed rate for that section of Income Tax Act
Threshold = TDS is deducted only if payment exceeds threshold limit for the section
Worked Example:
Professional Fee = ₹1,00,000 | Section 194J | TDS Rate = 10%
TDS = 1,00,000 × 10% = ₹10,000
Net payment to professional = ₹90,000
What is the TDS threshold for Section 194J?â–¾
TDS under 194J is applicable only when the total payments to a person exceed ₹30,000 in a financial year. If total payment is ₹25,000, no TDS is deducted.
What is Form 26AS?â–¾
Form 26AS is a consolidated tax statement showing all TDS deducted from your income, advance tax paid, and self-assessment tax paid. It can be downloaded from the income tax portal and helps verify your tax credits when filing ITR.
What happens if TDS is not deposited on time?â–¾
Late deposit of TDS attracts interest at 1.5% per month or part of a month. In addition, the deductor may face disallowance of the expense in income tax calculation until TDS is deposited.
